Smashing Pumpkins – Oceania Review

The Smashing Pumpkins have returned with a new cd called Oceania, ok well Billy Corgan has returned with a new cd.

Billy was on the Howard Stern show to promote the new cd, and they played one song which turns out to be the stand out track of the disc, “Violet Rays”, which I thought was an amazingly emotional song with a great edge to it, so my interest was peaked for this new disc.

So as I listen through the 13 songs it seems to me that this album should’ve been named Satellite Radio, because the musical styles are all over the place, from a hard rocking opener to other songs could be featured coffee house, new wave, love, music stations.

Billy mentioned on the Stern show that he had gone through a breakup with his girlfriend, and this disc seems to show with its sad tone of music throughout it.

If you buying this disc and expecting to hear the Smashing Pumpkins you heard in 1995, it seems those days are long gone, and that Billy Corgan, despite all his rage, is no longer a rat in a cage.
