The Ant Hill : Presidential Election 2012

The Ant Hill

by Anthony Jovinelli

As October begins and we head into fall that scariest time of year approaches yet again. I am not referring to Halloween. It is the time that we must prepare ourselves as the onslaught of political campaign ads has infiltrated our airwaves and press media. But best of all, this is no ordinary election year. That’s right folks, Step Right up, the Three Ring Circus we refer to as a Presidential election has hit town. Can’t you hear the calipee music playing? This campaign stages the incumbent Barrack Obama versus the Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Time is once again upon us to decide if the better decision is the devil you know or the devil you don’t know. If you are not already aware, an election is a process where the people that are affected the most have the least amount of say. Only about 1% of Americans actually have the prestige, the influence and the cash to affect policy or sway opinions. When was the last $1,000.00 a plate dinner you were able to afford to attend? In the months it takes to run a presidential campaign, approximately $500 Million will be spent to get elected to a job that only pays about $300,000.00 per year.

Having just watched the first Presidential debate it would appear as though the middle class has somebody’s attention. But how much smoke can they blow up my ass to make me think either one of them actually has a clue of what it is like to be middle class in America. They say that they have heard the cries of the people. So what really are the big issues this year? Well, first and foremost, the economy is in the toilet. For those of us that have jobs, the belt strap can’t get much tighter as we cut out every day conveniences in order to spend money on frivolous items, like food and medicine. In my lifetime, I have never previously even met anyone who lost their home to foreclosure. After this past year, I have met many and can no longer make that statement. As for the many of you who do not have jobs, well at least remember that your vote still has a value.

Let me start with the devil that we do know. President Obama has reigned over the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. He saved us by signing over billions of dollars to bail out millionaire bankers who made poor decisions. Using the U.S. tax dollars that they were then given, they then showed a profit and sent themselves home with million dollar bonus checks. The next step was to bail out the American Automotive Industry. This was done to help protect American jobs. The only jobs that were actually saved were the ones belonging to the executives that have been out-sourcing their companies work to other countries. More Hondas are built in the United States. If you require further proof of this, just look at any Vehicle Identification number. The international recognition of a vehicle assembled in the United States will have the First digit as being a 1. Anything else and that vehicle was assembled elsewhere: 2 is Canada, 3 is Mexico, J is Japan… As of that first debate, the President constantly attacked Romney about tax breaks to the rich. Who needs a tax break when the President will just hand you over the cash…

Let me continue by saying that I have no problem giving Aid to those in need. But we are trillions of dollars in debt because of greed, mismanagement and over-governmentation. (That’s not actually a word, as of this time, but I think you catch my meaning) The Obama lead government continues to give money to people who take it and then burn our flag or spit at us in arrogance. In all fairness, this has been going on for a long time before Mr. Obama took office but nothing has been done to facilitate a change, so he is still guilty by association. We have had to borrow money from Oil rich Countries who not only made their billions in profit from the sale of oil to the United States, they actually have the audacity to expect us to pay it back, oh, and with interest. What would happen if the table were turned? It is my opinion that we would not only lend them the money but shortly thereafter there would be a Presidential proclamation that would forgive them of their debt. We do this, yet many Americans are turned away from public assistance while they and their children go to bed hungry. Yet any American who does not pay their taxes or repay a bank loan or mortgage would end up in jail. Yet, most Americans who work their entire lives, have paid taxes and contributed to Medicare will not be able to afford retirement. So, if you should happen to get aid from America, all I ask is that you are at least gracious about it. Let the people of your country know that: Hey, Americans are OK and by the way, maybe say Thank you.

I will add to this that I have no issue with anyone coming to this country looking for a better life.

After all, my grandparents did. As Immigrants who came to this country they were forced to register. They proudly became United States Citizens. They found jobs, made a living on their own and paid taxes. If they had asked for assistance they were only given the door and told to leave. These days, our government takes people in, provides them with the funds to start a business and then, not only don’t collect taxes from them, they do not expect them to pay any of the money back. Or they just let them become a financial burden to the system (See the article below)

Economist Donald Huddle of RiceUniversity conducted a study and deduced that the net cost of Illegal aliens (The amount after subtracting the tax revenue received from Legal aliens) was $70 Billion a year. Although Illegal aliens are technically not eligible to collect public assistance they are under the “Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and Food stamp programs on behalf of their U.S. born child (Any child born in the United States is considered a citizen, regardless of the parents immigration status)  Also, a 1997 General Accounting Office report determined that in 1995 households headed by illegal aliens received a total of $700 Million in AFDC benefits and $430 Million in Food stamps. Keep in mind that these figures are now15 years old. The numbers have grown and President Obama is willing to sign over more… In my opinion, if you come to America, all I ask is that you do it legally. Pay taxes. Support the system and don’t become a burden to it.

As for Mitt Romney, The Jury is still out. He is the devil that I do not know. He is the scariest of creatures to the American public. He is a politician. He has an agenda. Or else if he didn’t, the Republican Party would certainly not be spending Millions of dollars trying to get him into the Oval Office. I do know that during that first debate, he did contradict himself on a couple of occasions but then, what politician doesn’t?

My message to the person that wants my vote to be President is simple: We need to stop the bleeding. On behalf of my Children and Grand-children, you need to let America catch its collective breathe before giving away the next trillion dollars. I am aware of the phrase, “Give until it hurts.” I am familiar with the Ben Franklin quote “The Noblest question in the world is: What good can I do in it?” But how many Americans are already hurting? How many Americans are out of a job? How many Americans have had their homes foreclosed on? How many Americans still have to pay taxes to support overly liberal policies that they can’t afford to support? It is popular opinion that Government is no longer by the people and for the people. It is just funded by the people for other people. Also that most politicians are all self sufficing, rich lawyers that are out of touch with reality and have lost the direction provided by our forefathers. Finally, given the opportunity, I would gladly debate these issues, on behalf of my fellow American people, with anyone.

Q: Do you know what they call an American Citizen who doesn’t pay taxes?

A: An inmate.

How Much Is the Obamacare ‘Tax’?

The minimum assessment will be $695 per person (but no more than $2,085 per family) in 2016, when fully phased in.
