Week 8 Preview
Welcome back to the NFL Depot! I’m your host Dave Mest! Let’s see where week 8 takes us. I’m taking a bit of a “bye week”, this week. I had a lot of things going on. But, I will be back, with a full column, next week. I will, still give you my top game of the week, with a little input, and we will take a look at my pick em’ plays, as well as my running totals. We also have a trip to Tarn’s corner, for his top 5 plays of the week. To end things we have Bay’s Fantasy pick up/play of the week.
Once again, I’m only choosing one game this week, to take top billing. I’m going with the only unbeaten team, Atlanta.
Atlanta vs. Philadelphia (1:00). The Falcons are coming into this game hot, while the Eagles are not. It’s a tale of two different seasons. Atlanta is getting it done with balance, while the Eagles are in flux.
The Eagles made some moves in its coaching staff, during the bye week. Let’s see if the change at defensive coordinator pays off for the Eagles.
The Eagles need to tighten up their overall game, if they hope to bounce back and make the playoffs. If the Eagles hope to do so, they have to start this week. What a better way to get it stared? A win against the un-beaten Falcons. But, a lot will have to go the Eagles way, to make that happen.
The Falcons, have gotten some luck, but for the most part, have played some really good football. Everything seems to be falling right, for Atlanta. Matt Ryan is having a great year, and the defense is playing up to par. But, the Falcons can’t overlook the Eagles. Atlanta doesn’t have a good track record against the Eagles, especially in Philly.
So in my shortened week, I’ll get right to my Top Two Keys to Victory. 1. The Eagles have to put pressure on Matt Ryan. They can’t let Ryan get into a grove, they have to hit him, force him out of the pocket. If Ryan gets hot, it could be a long day for the defense.
2. The game play doesn’t change much, from week to week, when you play the Eagles. The main focus shut down LeSean McCoy. Make Vick beat you, something he’s show, over the last few weeks, he can’t do.
Dave’s Take: I don’t know how much of a factor, the weather is going to have on this game, with hurricane Sandy looming, This game, may come down to what team has the best run game, on Sunday. Winds could be hitting 30 to 40 miles an hour, by the 4th qtr. So both teams are going to have to take shots, early, and often. With that being said, I like the team that plays its games outdoors. I may be nuts here, but I like the Eagles in a close one. 17-16 Eagles.
I had a strong week, last week, going 9-2. I hope to carry that over this week. I’m 54-45 for the season, 9 games over .500. I hope the trend continues this week.

Carolina vs. Chicago 27-17 Bears
San Diego vs. Cleveland 23-14 Chargers

Now over to Tarn’s corner.
Tarn went, a very nice, 3-1-1, last week. Bring his running totals to 17-18-2. Let’s get Tarn’s top 5 plays of the week.
Jacksonville @ Green Bay the Packers are a 13 point fav. Tarn’s Play: Take the Packers giving up -13

Seattle @ Detroit Over/Under 43 Tarn’s Play: Take the over
Miami @ N.Y. Jets Over/Under 39 Tarn’s Play: Take the over
