The Bears let Brian Urlacher leave Chicago

Urlacher SprintJust when you start to think there might be some loyalty in sports,  the New England Patriots lock up their star Quarterback Tom Brady to an extended contract to make sure that he ends his career in New England, but then a few weeks later the Patriots let go of Brady’s favorite target Wes Welker, who went to the Denver Broncos.

Now the Chicago Bears have decided to let go of their Defensive cornerstone Brian Urlacher.

Urlacher who was a ninth overall pick in the 2000 Draft, an 8 time Pro Bowl Player, the AP Defensive player of the year in 2005, and the leader of the Bears Defensive team is now a free agent.

This was a shock to not only everyone throughout the league, but Urlacher himself.

The negotiation between the Bears and Urlacher were not going well, but the word throughout the league was that a contract would be worked out, and Urlacher will remain a Bear for his career.

Well it looks like the Bears have gone the way of the Packers, when they let Brett Favre leave towards the end of his career, or when the 49ers let Iconic Quarterback Joe Montana leave to go to Kansas City.

Those two examples right there show you, that you can never expect your franchise player to remain with the team for his career.

It is getting harder and harder to find examples like Ray Lewis, who was able to stay with the Ravens for 17 seasons.

Brian Urlacher and the Bears fans need to not take this personally, and realize that the reality of it all is that it is a business. The powers that be need to make the best business decision for their team.

Did the Bears want Urlacher back?  Yes  435882-brian_urlacher_chicago_bears

Did they want him back at the price that HE wanted?  No

Brian will end up with a new team in the near future; will be a great player, contributor, and leader as always.

The Bears won’t be the same Defensive team, like they have been over the past 13 years with number 54 in the middle.

But some team will welcome him, and his role might be to just  come into a team, and be a mentor, and help fill some holes and to be a leader, but that just might be enough to help get a team over the hump and into the Super Bowl.

So remember no player is ever safe from being released, or traded………..Remember this name, Wayne Gretzky.       End of Discussion.

  1. Urlacher was better than Farve. Urlacher never made the team wait to see if he would play for them for several seasons in a row.
