Mav’s Comic Roundup : 4/26/13

By Mike “Mav” Grandizio

Recently there has been a lot of talk about a Justice League movie, it started with the success of the Marvel cinematic universe, and has kicked into overdrive with the pending release of this summers Man of Steel.

I’ve been thinking, and talking, a lot about the potential Justice League flick and the more I think about it, the more i think that DC following Marvels blueprint is not the way to go.  I believe that DC should put out a Justice League movie FIRST, then go about solo movies.  Here’s why:

DC superheroes are considerably more well known to the public.
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are three of, if not the three most recognized superheroes in the world. Maybe only Spiderman is more well known that these three (and an argument now could be made for Iron Man.)  Over the years DC has had a lot of success getting their heroes out, we’ve had several Batman and Superman movies, Smallville, Arrow, Justice League Unlimited, a Green Lantern film, numerous animated series and even a live action Flash series.

A feature film that starts with the big five of the JLA is an easier sell than the Avengers originally would have been, where, at the time the heroes were not as well known to the public (with the exception of the Hulk).  It seems strange now, but at the time lots of people were questioning whether or not an Iron Man movie would be popular.

Start with Batman investigating something that brings him to Metropolis and Supes, then introduce the rest of the gang.  I’d say for the first movie limited the team to the big five of Batman Superman, Wonder Woman Flash and Green Lantern would be smart.

I’d also stay away from Darkseid as the villain for the first movie.  Too many parallels would be made to The Avengers.  For the big bad I would introduce a rogue army of Amazons lead by Hades, although I could see Warner Bros. shying away from that, so how about a rising Atlantean army lead by Ocean Master?  You would of course bring Aquaman in to the film.

After The film you could branch out into solo movies for the characters, and those movies could introduce other Leaguers like Atom, Martian Manhunter, etc.  After that I would then circle back for a sequel.  Just please, no more Batman and Superman origin movies.  Pretty Please.

So, there’s my rough idea on a different path to a Justice League movie.  Any Thoughts?
