Welcome once again to my weekly angst. All things teen & teen angst on TV are my domain indeed!
This summer has been light on the angst but high on the new developments. So far Pretty Little Liars has returned for an all new season, Twisted & The Fosters have made their debut to strong ratings and television premier season is just on the other side of summer.
Thanks to WIKIPEDIA -The Fosters is an American drama series on ABC Family that premiered on June 3, 2013. Produced by Jennifer Lopez and her production company Nuyorican Productions, the series follows the lives of the Foster family, an interracial lesbian couple who are raising biological and adoptive children together.
Staring kid friendly actors like Maia Mitchell, Jake T Austin and Cierra Ramirez, The Fosters tries hard to buck some traditional concepts and as it turns out, is mildly entertaining while staying true to its angst origins. The conservative group ONE MILLION MOMS has condemned the show for allowing lesbians to “redefine” the traditional concepts of family.
Combining the shows reach to the emerging Latino population of America as well as staying within the ranks of angst is a really smart idea and I think if the writing stays fresh and relevant the sky is the limit for The Fosters and its teen stars.
